3 Key Trends from Mexico Fashion Week A/W 22/23

Updated: Mar 1, 2023

Considered the most important fashion event in Mexico, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was held at the end of April 2022, bringing together fashion leaders in the country. This edition was presented in a hybrid format, which proved successful last year, with 16 in-person shows, four virtual showcases and seven luxury experiences.

Elegance was the keyword, with designers showing uncomplicated, timeless and super versatile pieces. In styling, more traditional elements, such as the sombrero hat and cowboy boots, nodded to the cultural heritage of the country. In terms of colors, saturated tones (which also appear in color blocking) counterbalanced classic neutrals with dazzling results.

We've selected three trends straight from the Mexico Fashion Week runways to inspire your creations. Check them out here on START by WGSN blog:

Cobalt Blue

Confirmed by START by WGSN as one of the key colors for 2022 and also relevant for 2023, Cobalt Blue brings impact and versatility to segments such as sportswear, casualwear and partywear. The color appeared in several shows, mainly in combination with classic neutrals, oranges, yellows and pinks.

Cowboy Boots

The boots that have gained prominence on the streets of several countries were a constant in Mexico Fashion Week. Mexican cultural heritage, especially that from the north of the country, has a strong influence, offering a rustic feel with impactful handmade pieces.

Puffed Sleeves

Volumes in the sleeves – from the most subtle to the most exaggerated – will play a key role. Romantic and versatile, puffed sleeves nod to the cottagecore aesthetic that, although evolving, will last for seasons to come.
