3 Materials in High Demand for S/S 24

Updated: Jan 31

Check out three of the main trends in base fabric choices for the summer season.

With reference to the  S/S 24  fashion shows, we analyzed the most recurring choices of brands in materials. Striking surfaces  will continue to have commercial strength, such as open-knit, alternatives to leather, and transparent fabrics. These materials are perceived through perforated features in a game of show and hide that encompasses the contemporary sexy style, a trend that has taken over this season’s catwalks.

1- Open-Knit Mesh

Surfaces in knit and crochet  appear in open weaves  and wide stitches, allowing a degree of transparency in key pieces  such as dresses. This type of weaving evokes  a handmade texture  that has been gaining more traction and appreciation from consumers. The trend caters to resort fashion  and appears in urban proposals when combined with flat fabrics and circular knits.

2- Leather and Alternatives

Every passing year introduces dozens of new alternatives to conventional leather. Concerns about environmental damage are accelerating the development of alternative materials and plant-based  foundations that closely resemble the original animal material. Therefore, the summer runways of 2024/25 surprised us with the massive use of the material in their summer collections, often with laser-cut applications and manufactured with well-known materials such as viscose, and new materials  such as mycelium.

3- Transparent

Ultra-light and transparent materials such as muslin, chiffon, cambric, and gauze, mostly in pastel tones, are strong bets for key pieces  such as shirts, blouses  and dresses. These bases receive delicate applications  and embroideries, can be mixed with other textures like lace, and reference the aesthetic of poetic delicacy – one of the four macro themes for S/S 25.
