Met Gala: The Impact on Rising Trends

Updated: May 5, 2023

The Met Gala is a charity ball that marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual exhibition by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The event aims to raise funds for the institution and is organized by Vogue US editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

With information spreading at high speed due to social media, the event, which has always been key in fashion, now has an immediate impact on consumer desire, strengthening the trends that are already on the rise as well as presenting new ones.

This year’s theme was a tribute to designer Karl Lagerfeld, who worked for brands such as Chloé, Fendi and Chanel, the latter propelling him to fame. As such, some trends on the red carpet are associated with the aesthetics of the French maison and promise strength in the coming months.

1. Camellias

The around-the-neck flowers that have been used by influencers on social media will gain prominence, as the Met showcased several looks featuring camellias – a symbol of Chanel – as a recurring and abundant element.

3. Black and White

The evening’s looks were far from simple and minimalist, but a neutral color combo was recurrent, as it is commercial and easily accepted by the public.
