MFW round-up: Catwalk essentials

Updated: Nov 24, 2020

Milan Fashion Week was a statement of a more joyful and playful summer, with an abundance of extravagance and drama. Designers were creatively giving a sense of escaping reality through a vibrant lens.

Bold colors and scaled-up prints declared the season's prevalent mood: dramatic and extra-energetic. The extravagant aesthetic took over collections, echoing a new perspective: we’re not escaping nature anymore, we’re running away to a vivid fairytale.

Extravagant Escapism

The sense of escapism took over the collections. This trend calls for extra volume, exaggerated details, bold colors and overall statement items forgotten during the pandemic.

Spliced styles were bubbling up at MFW, and the classic combination of black and white was the designer favorite to create a statement with little effort. High-contrast color combos offered extra impact and were essential for a lively and summerly feel to pieces.

Maxi prints

Scaled-up prints brought a sense of boldness and tropical feel to statement items. Florals were the choice for a more commercial take, while the bright bases ensured the ultimate impact. Saturated seaside motifs provided a more vibrant and joyful touch.
